STUDENT GOVERNMENT CANDIDATE GUIDELINES

  1.  There shall be no active campaigning which can be heard or seen within 100 feet of the polling place.  Active campaigning includes any item or person which has a pre-designed movement or sound and endorses a candidate.  No active campaigning may be placed in the commons.  Also, no active campaigning can be done in the form of stickers.  NO STICKERS! NO EXCEPTIONS!

  1. A candidate may procure no materials from the school which are not in such availability that may be provided to all the candidates included on the ballot.

  1. ALL materials, posters, or flyers that are being hung or distributed within the school or used to publicize your candidacy must be approved by the student government sponsor and/or steering committee.

  1. Candidates may in no way slander the names of the other candidates, other students, members of the faculty, or members of the administration or institutions of Hickman High School.

  1. Candidates with questions regarding election procedure should pursue the proper channels, i.e. the Policy Committee, then the Steering Committee.  Appropriate faculty and administration personnel should be consulted only after the student body committees have heard the complaints or inquiries of the candidate.

  1. In all cases of questionable action, the decision of the Steering Committee is final and will be determined by a simple majority of the committee members.  The Steering Committee will have ultimate authority and any candidate who fails to respect this authority will be subject to disciplinary action, including removal from the ballot.

  1. If any candidate feels that the charges and subsequent actions leveled against him or her are unfounded or unfair, they may appeal to the Steering Committee by submitting a written appeal to the Executive Board, which will be approved by a simple majority.  The Steering Committee may overturn a Senate ruling by a two-thirds vote.

  1. Any requests fro school materials will not be entertained without the approval of three members of the Election Committee and are subject to examination by the Steering Committee.

Any candidate or candidates found to have violated these stated rules or those stated in the Constitution of the Hickman High School Student Government, which outline appropriate election procedures, shall be held accountable by the Steering Committee.
